Rising Boy Name Trends for 2023 – Newborn Photography Vancouver

Expecting a new baby in 2023? With a long to-do list ahead, finding the perfect name is a top priority for many parents. While boy names can be challenging, the latest trends suggest that unique, softer names are on the rise.

First, let’s take a look back at the most popular names from last year.

The most popular names of 2022 in Canada, according to Baby Center were ….

  1. Noah
  2. Liam
  3. Jackson
  4. Oliver
  5. Leo
  6. Lucas
  7. Luca
  8. Jack
  9. James
  10. Benjamin

Through this list, many of these boy names have been in the top ten for several years. In fact, the only new additions to the top ten are Luca and James. Noah remains in the top spot, with Liam and Jackson having traded places within the top three.

Other themes that we can see in these names are L names and J names! Liam, Leo, Lucas, and Luca are 4 out of 10 on this list, while Jackson, Jack, and James are 3 out of 10 on this list. Most of the names on this list end in consonants rather than vowels, with only two names on the list ending in a vowel.

Based on these names and rising trends, these are some of the names that are expected to be gaining popularity in 2023 for little boys.

Softer names for boys are incoming.

Noah and Liam being at the top mean that people love these gorgeous, soft, yet strong boy names. James and Luca rising into the top ten also suggest that people are loving this feeling for boy names. Levi, Kai, and Rowan are expected to rise in the charts in 2023.

Short names stay popular.

From how the top ten looks, short names under 5 letters are extremely popular. Expect shorter names for boys to stay popular for the next couple of years at least.

Nicholas (and others) drop out of the top 100.

We all know a Nick! But unfortunately, Nicholas is quickly falling out of favor for new babies. Nicholas dropped 56 places in 2022, and you can expect popular mainstays from the 1990s and 2000s to continue to slip.
