Making room for self-care while you are growing a new human inside of you can be difficult, but it is of the utmost importance. As the carrier of this new person, it can be easy to forget about yourself while in the clutches of focusing on becoming a mom.
However, as a newborn and maternity photographer in Vancouver, I cannot stress enough that taking care of you is essential in pregnancy, so I’ve put together three important self-care tips for expecting moms!
Take a break!
Your body is doing an incredible thing that is exhausting by definition. It is absolutely okay to say no to commitments or activities that push you to keep moving and doing while you are pregnant. If you feel like you need more time to relax, you are allowed to say no without the guilt associated with it. Maybe even try out meditation if you haven’t yet.
Create a new routine.
Focusing on structure during times of chaos and uncertainty can be extremely rewarding for mental health. You may already have a skincare or beauty routine, but if you don’t you should consider one! These are simple routines with easily followable steps. Another idea for creating a new routine is to make a new bedtime routine that you follow in the same order each night. Adding in this structure will help you feel like you are completing your days and in control.
Start a journal!
Journaling is an incredible tool for mental health. Writing your thoughts down whether it be physically with pen and paper or in the Notes app on your iPhone, you can multitask in order to create a beautiful memory keepsake for your new baby while also healing your mind and separating out your thoughts.
