You’ve just done one of the hardest things that human beings will ever have to do in their lifetime. All of the congratulations in the world are in order and this newborn photographer in North Vancouver, BC wishes you the smoothest recovery from your delivery!
However, as we all know, postpartum time is not just the time to care for a new baby, it is also imperative that you embrace self-care and focus on yourself. Let’s go over some helpful self-care tips for postpartum recovery so that you can tend to your own needs.
Use your village.
We have all heard the phrase “it takes a village”, but some of us struggle with using our villages. In this time after delivery, your support system wants to be there for you, even if it may inconvenience them to do so. That is why they are there! Accept their help in order to help yourself as making good use of your support persons is essential for postpartum self-care.
Take non-negotiable time for yourself.
It may feel daunting now to do tasks that you used to be able to perform without a second thought, such as showering or brushing your hair. However, these self-care tasks are essential for maintaining your mental health. If you are struggling to find time in your day to do these tasks, you should try to navigate this by having a loved one watch baby for a set amount of time so that you can perform these tasks.
Make going outside a part of your routine.
While it may feel natural to hunker down and turn your house into the baby zone, you run the risk of getting cabin fever. Make a schedule with your loved ones to leave the house once a week, then twice a week, and so on until you find yourself with a routine where you and baby can successfully leave the house. You may want to start with a simple walk in the neighborhood. Whatever you decide will be likely to help you feel more like yourself and you will enjoy the benefits of getting out.
