Newborn Photography Vancouver – Girl names are so fun, and there are so many options to choose from when naming a little girl. The most popular girl names of 2022 were incredibly diverse, mixing starting and ending letters and ranging from flowery to unique.
Last year, the top ten names for newborn girls in Canada, according to Baby Center, were:
- Olivia
- Sophia
- Amelia
- Emma
- Ava
- Charlotte
- Lily
- Hannah
- Nora
- Isabella
There are a few common themes in this top list which include 7 of 10 names ending in the letter a, 5 of 10 names starting with a vowel, and all but one name ending with a vowel. 6 of 10 names had five or more letters.
Overall, these names are gorgeous, but those who are looking to break away from the top 10 can find plenty of inspiration online. There are some predictions that might give you some ideas, though!
In 2023, some of the names that we think will start to rise in popularity include:
Names that end in the letter ‘e’, instead of ‘a’.
Think Olivie or Olive instead of Olivia, Sophie rather than Sophia, and Isabelle over Isabella.
Funky new names.
Names new to the top 100 in Canada, like Ruby, Lyla, Josephine, and Iris, will continue to rise in popularity in 2023.
A resurgence of Grace.
Last year, Grace fell 33 places on the list down to #78. However, it seems super popular online still. Grace might have a comeback!
Longer names with fun nicknames.
In the new year, overall, we expect a departure from nicknames as names and a focus on “maximalist” baby names. Think of names that are long with short, cutesy nicknames when you think of 2023 name trends.
